The first screening of Radical Jesters (http://radicaljesters.com/) was at midnight at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge Massachusetts – where Paul Robeson played Othello, Zero Mostel was an Imaginary Invalid, Eraserhead became a Boston cult favorite, and a lot of classics were seen students for the first time.
We’re not a classic yet, and granted it was an audience of many collaborators and friends, but certainly not all. The nearly capacity theater laughed pretty hard, hard enough so that you could miss some of the dialogue under the chortles. ALAN ABEL made it up from Connecticut (thanks, Alan). He was as dry and wry as always. John Hargrave came and sold out of the copies of his new book PRANK THE MONKEY. Catherine D’Ignazio who is so well spoken in film from the Institute of Infinitely Small Things was there, as was the always engaging capitalist bashing Czech Underground Performance Artist Milan Kahout. They all stuck around for a Q & A
Film at 11:00 (or to be posted soon on at radicaljesters.com)
Outside a protester from Citizens for Art That Responsibly Entertains (C.A.R.E.) handed out flyers asking people to boycott the film. Inside – just before the film – their representative read a speech about how as a child of the 1960’s his upbringing had rendered him a homosexual and drug addict, but he has since found the light and the way. Still he wanted people to avoid this film that he claims promotes anarchy not art. I’ll post the text of their protest poster when I can grab a copy. Or their site is at

where Radical Jesters has been put in the “BLACK BOX OF SHAME”
Was this an April Fool’s prank? Hmmm – guess you had to be there.
The audience handed in Reaction Cards, and we will read, process, and edit accordingly.
More soon…………..
